Controlled Medications
Controlled substances are regulated by the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) under federal law, Title 21 United States Code (USC) Controlled Substances Act. Controlled substances are medications that have a high potential for abuse and the potential to create psychologic and or physical dependance. Psycure: Modern Psychiatry prescribes in accordance with 2025 practice standards in regard to these medications.
Due to Legalities, controlled Substances are only prescribed by Psycure: Modern Psychiatry in the following states: Ohio
The following represent our universal practice standards for these medications:
Stimulants
Examples of psychostimulants we prescribe include:
Adderall, Adderall (XR) Dexedrine, Methylphenidate, Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Modafinil (Provigil), Armodafinil (Nuvigil), Lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), Dexmethylphenidate (Focalin, Focalin XR), Dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine, ProCentra, Zenzedi), Amphetamine Sulfate (Evekeo), (Metadate ER, Methylin ER), (Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR), (Concerta, Daytrana, Jornay PM, Metadate CD, Quillivant XR, Quillichew ER, Ritalin LA), (Mydayis), Serdexmethylphenidate/dexmethylphenidate (Azstarys), Pitolisant (Wakix), Didrex, Bontril, Preludin, Fastin, Adipex-P, Ionamin, and Meridia.
Requirements of being Prescribed Stimulants
An assessment and diagnosis deemed clinically appropriate by practitioner, for use of stimulants.
Use of a Urine Drug Screen, before prescribing stimulants, concurrently or randomly throughout treatment. This is left to the discretion of the practitioner. (THC usually excluded).
Prior use of stimulants or prior stimulant prescriptions does not automatically qualify clients for stimulant prescriptions. This is left to the assessment of the practitioner.
Signing of controlled substance agreement.
Benzodiazepines / Hypnotics
Like opioids, this class of medications faces changes in modern psychiatry. Due to cognitive deficits in prolonged use and high chance for dependance, Psycure: Modern Psychiatry practitioners will only prescribe benzodiazepines as a short term use and not long term maintenance.
Examples of Benzodiazepines we prescribe include:
Alprazolam (Xanax), Lorazepam (Ativan), Clonazepam (Klonopin), Diazepam (Valium), Temazepam (Restoril)
Examples of hypnotics we prescribe include:
Zolpidem (Ambien), Eszopiclone (Lunesta), Zaleplon (Sonata)
Benzodiazepines / Hypnotics are prescribed for short term use and are not prescribed for long term use.
Practitioner and client understand that provider will peruse other solutions to alleviate long term symptoms, rather than use of benzodiazepines.
A client entering care under a Psycure provider with a long term use of benzodiazepines may have that dose reduced at discretion of the provider.
Prior use of this medication may not necessitate further prescription from the provider. This decision is at the discretion of the provider.
Use of a Urine Drug Screen, before prescribing benzodiazepines / hypnotics, concurrently or randomly throughout treatment, is left to the discretion of the practitioner. (THC usually excluded).
Benzodiazepines / Hypnotics will not be prescribed to individuals with impaired motor function or at risk for falls.
Signing of controlled substance agreement.
(Benzodiazepines will never be abruptly discontinued.)
